With the help of the camera mobile phone, Oki Iris Scanner is able to scan the detail of your iris (photographing distance: 20cm) and analyst it.
Oki had previously developed iris recognition technology which utilized infrared cameras to actually scan your iris. However, this new technology uses standard mobile phone cameras. All you have to do is to install the particular software on any camera-equipped cellphone or PDA to execute iris recognition.
With plans to make the technology commercially available in March 2007, Oki hopes to boost the security of mobile phone payment systems.
The technology is very accurate, and reports have said that only 1 in 100,000 resulted in error. Not only that, the camera knows the difference between a real eye and one caught on film.
Oki expects the new Iris recognition technology to be made available for consumers in March 2007.
