| Vodafone Japan announced two new clamshell designs, the Toshiba 803T which is a 3G phone and the V604SH (from Sharp). |
Sharp has decided to bring out its terminals in several colors such as White, Pink, Orange and Grey while Toshiba has stuck to only white and a new color for cell phones - Lime. The V604SH consists of an analogue TV tuner which allows the user to tune into the local TV channels on his handset. The handset supports MP3 and AAC files, two of the most popular formats for music storage. Additionally, the support of a mini SD card slot increases the memory capacity so as to allow the user to store much more data or enjoy media / music files.
The best part about the V604SH says Sharp is its customisable display which lets the user program which applications / shortcuts he wants on his system; kind of like a desktop, something of this sort is seen on O2 phones (active desktop). In addition to watching TV , the user can also tune into his favorite FM radio channel. The 143 gram handset allows upto 60 minutes of continuous TV watching or 130 minutes of talktime on a full charge. The 604SH is a PDC phone. Dimensions are 50 × 103 × 26 mm. The handset also has a 1.3 megapixel camera.
The 803T is more of a fun filled handset. Operating on W-CDMA and tri-band GSM; Toshiba has emphasised on music features in this handset. Compatible with most music formats, the 803T easily synchronises with a PC for exchanging data. Music controls are provided on the outside. This clamshell is slightly lighter then the earlier one at 134 grams and has dimensions of 47 × 100 × 26 mm. However the 803T has no camera.
