|At a time when it is the trend to pack your devices with every kind of imaginable feature, Toshiba has gone ahead and done the unthinkable. They have actually made a simple handset one which can be operated by non-geeks. Toshiba says that the target audience is the elderly - who have difficulty in understanding phone functions and young children who have not yet caught on to the cell craze.|
The V502T does precisely this by having "simple modes". The menu can be personalised to contain only the features that are used while discarding the rest. If required the size of the menu characters can also be increased to make it easy to read. Finally there is the "limiting mode" which allows you to set the maximum amount of talktime that the handset will allow its user. One can also restrict the numbers from which the handset will recieve and make calls. Further use of the "limit mode" is evident in the fact that one can control which websites cannot be visited on the cell phone and also whether international calls can be recieved / made. There is even a "night mode" . If the guardian of a child / teenager does not wish the handset to be used for any purpose after a certain time than the phone shuts itself off and becomes operable only by a password during this time.
The handset does have decent specifications though - a 262,000 color TFT display (primary) with a secondary, external sub display which is of 65,536 colors. The V502T is also equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera lens. In addition, it has a miniSD card slot to store music that can be played back (AAC format supported). The 119 gram handset has dimensions of 51 × 103 × 20 mm and is available in a choice of 4 colors.
