It has been surprising that there have been no new handsets or announcements from BenQ - Siemens. Just when we were about to give up hope on any new releases from this merger, comes the news that they are supposed to announce 3 new handsets by January 17th. The news has been broken by a Chinese website (MODOPO). All the 3 handsets are of different form factors.
The first one is the S88 which is extremely similar in styling to the SonyEricsson K750i. However since it comes much later then the K750i ; its features are better. The BenQ- Siemens S88 will have a 2 megapixel camera, a 262,000 color display ; a MP3 player and a mini SD card slot for memory expansion. The S88 will have unlimited video recording capacity (depending on memory) besides picture taking.
The second is the BenQ-Siemens E71 , a smooth sliding machine which hides the keypad behind its screen. The E71 is bluetooth compatible and even supports bluetooth stereo headphones for listening to music on the built-in MP3 player. This phone though enjoys only a 1.3 megapixel camera lens - less then the S88. However it too has a QVGA 262,000 color display. With its neat outlay of keys and a masculine design ; the E71 can be a popular executive handset.
The last would be the clamshell which has been named as the Hermes C5. The C5 brings back memories of earlier handsets thanks to its changeable external panels. The trendy and stylish clamshells will fit into a niche that is not covered by the E71 and S88. The Hermes C5 will have dual display - an internal main display of 262,000 color. The external one is monochrome. The Hermes also features a 1.3 megapixel camera lens. Additional features include Bluetooth, Email and MMS compatibility. The Hermes C5 also gives its users the benfit of a MP3 player.
