SIG (The Bluetooth Special Interest Group)  announced today the formal adoption of Bluetooth v4.0.

The most important aspect of the V4.0 Bluetooth specification is the low peak, average and idle mode power consumption.
With enhanced range and the ability to run for years on standard coin-cell batteries, expect to see Bluetooth 4.0 devices by the end of the year.

Opera today introduced Opera Mini 5.1, an update to the popular Opera Mini 5. This update is highly recommended for users of Nokia S40 phones with limited memory and phones with a small screen size, such as Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300, Nokia 2700, Sony Ericsson K550i and Sony Ericsson W810i phones.

 According to a statement issued to CNET, Microsoft has 'delayed' the Europe launch of its KIN phones.

"We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones." 

 Adobe announced the release of Adobe Flash Player 10.1 to mobile platforms, starting with Google’s Android 2.2 FroYo OS.

Devices supporting Android Froyo 2.2 Platform and Flash Player 10.1 are expected to include the Dell Streak, Google Nexus One , HTC Evo, HTC Desire , HTC Incredible, Motorola DROID , Motorola Milestone , Samsung Galaxy S and others, except for Apple’s smartphones. Flash Player 10.1 was also released to mobile platform partners to be supported on devices based on Android, BlackBerry , webOS, future versions of Windows Phone, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian OS, and is expected to be made available via over-the-air downloads and to be pre-installed on smart phones, tablets and other devices in the coming months."

 It seems Toshiba is working on a 128-gigabyte embedded NAND flash memory module, fully compliant with the latest e-MMC standard, and designed for application in a wide range of digital consumer products, including smartphones, tablet PCs and digital video cameras.

Samples will be available in September, and the new module will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of this year.

 Apple yesterday launched the iPhone4 and today they released six images taken with the iPhones's 5-megapixel camera. The camera features autofocus, LED light for pictures and video, 5x digital zoom and a secondary VGA camera poking above the display.

For a 5-megapixel camera, the results are really impressive, we must say.

HP and Palm announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which HP will purchase Palm at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash or an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion. The transaction has been approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors. 

With expected revenues for the third-quarter between $285 million to $310 million, Palm was looking for suitors interested in purchasing the struggling company.

Palm’s current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company. 

Apple today officially launched a beta version of the iPhone OS 4 with over 1,500 new APIs and over 100 new features that will be available to iPhone and iPod touch users this summer. The biggest feature is the long-wanted multitasking. The new OS also includes Folders, iBooks, Unified Inbox, Local notifications, Game Center, iAd and more.
